Farano set to miss Le Mans following Laguna Seca accident

John Farano will be replaced by Steven Thomas in the Tower Motorsports line-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, following his accident at Laguna Seca last month.

While he ‘remains in good health’ according to a team statement, he will no longer partake in the 100th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans next weekend, as a precautionary measure following his incident in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship round.

The Canadian owner-driver’s replacement in Tower’s assault on Le Mans in the LMP2 category comes in the form of TDS Racing driver and 2022 Le Mans Pro-Am champion Steven Thomas, who will share piloting duties of the #13 Oreca 07-Gibson with Ricky Taylor and Rene Rast.

Farano endured a collision with the wall on Laguna Seca’s turn 5 and was taken to hospital for further checks after failing to exit the vehicle under his own steam.

Farano’s absence from Le Mans this year means he misses out on a return to the world-famous endurance event for the first time since 2019. But despite his personal disappointment, Tower Motorsport have confirmed that he will ‘remain in close contact with the drivers and staff, and will be championing them from afar.’

Farano will have plenty to cheer for as he watches his Tower Motorsport team take on the world’s greatest endurance race.

Thomas’ Pro-Am pedigree adds to a line-up that features two-time Daytona 24 Hours winner Taylor — himself a veteran of eight starts at Le Mans — and Rast, who is set to make his fifth appearance in the race having already achieved a class podium in the past.
