The all-female single-seater series, F1 Academy, will be getting the Netflix treatment during its 2024 campaign with a series debuting in 2025 – per a Friday announcement.

Following in the footsteps of Formula 1’s Drive to Survive, the new doc will be produced by Hollywood superstar Reese Witherspoon via her Hello Sunshine production company.

“We started Hello Sunshine to change the narrative for women, and Susie Wolff and F1 Academy are doing just that by creating new opportunities in the thrilling world of motorsport,” said Witherspoon.

“As these dynamic and fearless drivers break barriers behind the wheel, we are excited to partner with Netflix to tell the stories of these powerhouse leaders.

“What we know is that when we put women at the centre, people show up to watch.”

The F1 Academy has been bolstered in 2024, in what is just its second season.

Under the stewardship of Managing Director Susie Wolff, the series has stepped up to feature on the F1 support package for each of its seven rounds and select drivers to receive backing from all 10 of the F1 teams.

In addition to having backing from F1 teams, Wolff has used her decades of experience to leverage invaluable commercial partnerships for the remaining five drivers on the grid

Global makeup brand Charlotte Tilbury has stepped into the world of motorsport for the first time to back driver Lola Lovinfosse and the likes of Puma, Tommy Hilfiger and American Express back Aurelia Nobels, Nerea Martí and Jess Edgar respectively.

2024 has also seen F1 Academy scale up its broadcast presence massively.

The series is now broadcast in 160 territories and streamed live on F1 Academy’s X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube channels as well as on F1TV.

F1 Academy aims to bring female racing athletes into the realm of Grand Prix racing and the announcement of a Netflix multi-part docuseries is the next step in achieving that goal.

“We want to be the rocket fuel that drives female participation in our sport, both on and off the track,” said Wolff.

“To have the F1 ACADEMY docuseries launch globally with Netflix is not just a huge step forward in visibility for our mission, but also a resounding statement about the momentum and demand for women’s sport.

“We want to inspire and empower the next generation of young women, and Netflix will open up F1 ACADEMY to a global audience of existing and future fans.”

Round 2 of the 2024 F1 Academy season is already underway in Miami, with Doriane Pin and Abbi Pulling sharing the spoils in Friday’s two practice sessions.
