Red Bull Junior driver Arvid Lindblad has been signed by Campos Racing for next season’s FIA Formula Two championship after a successful campaign in Formula 3 this year.

The British youngster took four wins to finish fourth in his debut F3 campaign with Prema Racing, including victory in the Bahrain Sprint, his first-ever race in the category.

He followed this with successes in the Barcelona Feature, as well as a double in-front of his home crowd at Silverstone.

Lindblad said of his signing: “Super excited to be joining Campos Racing in FIA F2 for 2025. The team has had an amazing season so far and can’t wait to start working together. I look forward to joining the long list of drivers that have raced for the team in the past and be a part of its heritage and the legacy of Mr. Adrián Campos.

“The team seems very passionate, hungry and motivated to win. They’ll give me the tools and knowledge to continue to develop as a driver as we push each other to improve.

“I want to say thank you to everyone at Red Bull, the Junior Team and Campos Racing for the opportunity. I can’t wait to get started!”

Having joined Red Bull’s Junior Team programme in 2021, Lindblad is rated very highly by those at the Milton Keynes outfit, including Team Principal Christian Horner, who said after his win in Spain: “Arvid did a great job to win the Formula 3 race. He’s in his rookie season. He’s a real talent.

“He’s one of the brightest talents that we have in the junior program. A very talented young driver and excited about his 16 years of age.

“We’re going to keep an eye on him for the future, for sure.”

Campos Racing’s Red Bull Junior Isack Hadjar took back-to-back FIA Formula 2 Feature Race wins with victory at Imola.

Hadjar overcame a late onslaught from Invicta’s Gabriel Bortoeleto as Joshua Durksen made history for Paraguay with his maiden podium after graduating from FRECA.

Prema’s Oliver Bearman had a race to forget, stalling twice in the pits after leading early on.

Saturday’s Sprint saw Argentine Franco Colapinto take his maiden F2 victory with a tough move on the final lap and he lined up ninth on Sunday’s Feature Race grid.

Invicta’s McLaren Development Driver Bortoleto was in the pound seat on pole, sharing the front row with Bearman and sporting a tribute helmet to fellow Brazillian Ayrton Senna.

Hadjar was caught in the multi-car pileup at the start of Saturday’s Sprint and looked for better starting from third in the Feature, sharing the second row with teenage sensation Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who had a terrible getaway at lights out on Saturday.

Championship leader Zane Maloney was poised to compete from sixth on the grid.

Bortoelto didn’t get an optimal launch at lights out with Bearman snatching the holeshot ahead of Hadjar and Joshua Durksen.

Antonelli had a stronger start than Saturday but still dropped down one place to fifth at the start of the 35-lap race.

Thankfully, the field behaved better than they did at the start of Saturday’s sprint and a crash was avoided at lights out.

Bearman had Hadjar and Durksen for close company as DRS was enabled on Lap 3, with just over a second covering the top three.

Tyre management was key as the front runners all elected to start on the softer option tyre.

Whoever could manage their tyres best ahead of pitting would be in prime position in the latter stint of the 35-lap race.

By Lap 6 Durksen had lost some ground on the two leaders and was called into pit and Hadjar ahead of him did the same.

They were joined by Maloney and Roman Stanek as the first gaggle of runners to switch tyres.

A lap later and Bearman and Borteleto came into pit, followed by Colapinto and Taylor Barnard.

It was a disaster stop for Bearman however as the British driver stalled twice, giving up several seconds and dropping him to 21st place.

Hadjar meanwhile took the net lead in P10 ahead of Borteleto, Durksen and Colapinto as Antonelli pitted on Lap 9.

It was a smoother stop for the second Prema driver and he emerged behind Borteleto but cold tyres meant Durksen was able to make quick work of passing the Prema driver.

This left Amaury Cordeel as the true race leader on Lap 10, winning the battle of drivers who started on the harder rubber.

However, the runners who started on the soft tyre, before switching to the hard option were poised to return to the front as Hadjar, net leader in seventh on Lap 12, was running the quickest pace of anyone on the circuit.

Hadjar enjoyed an approximate two-second margin ahead of Borteleto and the net lead duo enjoyed a near four-second margin ahead of Durksen.

Durksen himself had a cushion back to Antonelli by Lap 14, who had Colapino, and Paul Aron for company.

“He’s moving under braking,” came the frustrated call from Maloney over team radio as he struggled to fight past Stanek for 13th on the road on Lap 15.

Maloney was becoming impatient as he and Stanek were losing ground on Aron ahead and Jak Crawford joined in on what became a three-way fight for P13 on Lap 17.

“Man he’s weaving around,” claimed Barbadian Maloney as his frustration grew and Stanek’s pace waned.

However, Stanek’s Trident engineer’s encouraging words made apparent that as long as he could hold position down the start/finish straight, the likes of Maloney and Crawford behind would stay that way.

Stanek was holding up a train of cars by Lap 19, as his Trident team-mate Richard Verschoor and Dennis Hauger joined the group behind him.

Maloney’s unsuccessful pursuit of Stanek prompted Crawford to attack on Lap 20 and the DAMS driver took 14th away from the championship leader on the run between Tosa and Piratella.

Crawford wasn’t able to translate his move on Maloney to passing Stanek and further up the road Aron was experiencing the same, tucked in behind Colapinto in a fight for 11th on the road on Lap 24 of 35.

Stanek’s defence withered by Lap 25 as Crawford moved past the Trident to take 13th on the road as the top six remained out, yet to pit for the soft rubber.

Hadjar at this point sat poised in seventh, untroubled by Borteleto following closely behind as Durksen and Antonelli were driving comfortably in ninth and 10th respectively.

Cordeel was an intriguing proposition, running 6.5s clear of the rest of the field on Lap 28 and nearly 23s ahead of Hadjar in seventh on the alternate strategy.

Juan Manuel Correa was the first of the top six to pit at the end of Lap 29, going from third on pit entry and emerging in 13th place on the start of Lap 30.

Cordeel, Josep María Martí and Victor Martins pitted at the end of Lap 30 and all eyes were on the former of this trio to see where he would emerge.

But disaster, the right rear tyre came loose on Cordeel’s car and his race was ruined.

Martí also suffered a similar fate as botched stops turned two driver’s races upside down.

Amid the pit-lane drama, the fight for victory was on between Hadjar and Borteleto as Rafael Vilagomez pitted at long last at the end of Lap 32.

The stage was set for a three-lap battle for the win.

“Leave me alone,” Borteleto said to his engineer on the penultimate lap, as he fought to stay close to the back of Hadjar’s Campos machine.

Coming onto the final lap at Imola the DRS wasn’t enough for Borteleto to pass at Tamburello, but Hadjar had a tricky exit coming out of the chicane, giving hope to the Invicta driver behind.

The duo went nose to tail through Piratella, putting on a last-lap show for the Imola crowd.

Try as he might, Borteleto couldn’t get a move done and Hadjar held on to take a well-deserved victory.

But it was still a first podium finish for Borteleto, as it was for rookie Durksen some 13 seconds down the road, a first for a Paraguayan driver in F2 and the first points for his team AIX Racing.

Antonelli finished fourth to equal his best result in F2, with Sprint winner Colapinto completing the top five.

Aron finished 0.3s shy of Colapinto in sixth, gaining ground on Maloney in the championship fight as DAMS duo Crawford and Correa finished seventh and eighth respectively.

Martins executed the alternate strategy well to convert 22nd on the grid to ninth as Verschoor rounded out the top-10.

Campos driver Isaac Hadjar triumphed in the Formula 2 Feature race in Australia to avenge his lost win from the Sprint when he was penalised for causing a collision.

The Frenchman crossed the line ahead of the pack at the Albert Park Circuit for the second time, with Paul Aron and Zane Maloney completing the podium places.

Dennis Hauger had lined up on pole position and retained the lead at the start, but a brave move from Andrea Kimi Antonelli into Turn 11 saw him snatch first place.

Right behind the front-row starting pair, championship leader Maloney managed to execute a move on Richard Verschoor to take third, as Pepe Marti moved into fifth.

Victor Martins was on the charge once again and went from 21st to 11th in just a couple of corners, while Ferrari prospect Oliver Bearman rose nine places in total.

Antonelli had been unable to break clear at the head of the queue, enabling Hauger to retake the lead from the Prema rookie on Lap 2 and stretch his legs out front.

However, the Norwegian racer was on the radio on the fourth lap complaining to his MP Motorsport race engineer that he was struggling for grip on the Soft compound.

Hauger wasn’t the sole driver at the limit with their rubber in the nascent stages as both Marti and Maloney went off at Turn 10, while Martins almost lost his ART car.

The Medium compound was emerging as the stronger option, with Kush Maini producing a blistering pace to sweep past Maloney and Antonelli to progress to second.

That came right before the Virtual Safety Car had been called into action due to Joshua Durksen in the PHM AIX Racing heading off the road at Turn 14 with an issue.

Upon the resumption, the massive pace difference resulted in Maini claiming the lead from Hauger, triggering an immediate reaction that saw activity in the pit lane.

A high amount of the drivers in the top 10 went into the pits to swap to the Medium tyre, including race leader Hauger. Prema elected to double stack, while Campos decided to pit Marti and keep Hadjar out on track.

But moments later Hauger crashed into the wall at Turn 6 on Lap 11, prompting the intervention of a Virtual Safety car, then upgraded to a full Safety Car to clear up the debris from his MP Motorsport car.

This interruption helped Hadjar, who then made his pit stop and came out in seventh but ahead of Antonelli, who had been running as the leading driver to make their stop.

At the restart, the Campos driver managed to extend the gap to Antonelli while also dispatching with ease both Taylor Barnard and Roman Stanek, who were yet to pit, to protect his advantage.

Paul Aron had climbed through the order and passed Antonelli into Turn 11 on Lap 20 before Maloney was the next to pass the Italian driver for a net third on Lap 25.

Once Maini, Jak Crawford and Juan Manuel Correa ventured into the pits on Lap 31, Hadjar was back in the lead, and he coasted to a 4.4s win over Aron in second.

The Red Bull Junior’s win marks the first success for Campos in F2 since Azerbaijan 2019 and a maiden triumph for the Frenchman amid his Sprint race heartbreak.

Maloney earned another podium finish with third place, ahead of Antonelli and Rodin’s Ritomo Miyata, who landed another top five-finish in his rookie F2 campaign.

The sole running MP Motorsport car of Franco Colapinto was sixth, but the Argentinian was disqualified post-race for “failing to engage the correct start procedure”.

Rafael Villagomez, Martins and Bearman were all promoted one place following this decision, along with Crawford, who landed the final available point at Albert Park.

Recent Red Bull Junior inductee Oliver Goethe shared his FIA Formula 3 title ambitions with Motorsport Week in an exclusive interview charting the young driver’s recent step up to international competition, goals for the future and where his passion for motorsport began.

The German-Danish driver, just 19 years of age is set to compete in his second FIA F3 campaign in 2024, having made the switch to Campos from Trident in the offseason and credits his family for inspiring him to take up a career in racing.

“My dad did some amateur racing and my older brother liked karting as well,” Goethe said. “So it kind of just built up from there. The level got higher and higher. I started doing harder competitions in karting. And then, yeah, I’ve loved it more and more ever since I started. And it’s my dream to make a career out of it.”

Goethe’s dream has seen him acquit himself well in single-seater racing. He made his single-seater debut with a one-round appearance in Spanish Formula 4 in 2019, returning to the series for a full campaign a year later to claim one victory, six podiums and clinch fifth in the Drivers’ standings.

From Spain, he graduated to the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine in 2021 and after starting the 2022 season competing in the Formula Regional Asian Championship, Goethe went on a title charge in the EuroFormula Open Championship, winning 11 races and scoring an additional seven podiums to emerge as champion.

His EuroFormula exploits earned him an FIA F3 debut for two rounds with Campos in 2022, whereupon he scored a reverse-grid pole in his first outing at the Hungaroring and scored two points finishes and a best result of fourth (Spa-Francorchamps) across four races in Hungary and Belgium.

So, when embarking on his first full FIA F3 campaign with Trident last year, Goethe was rightfully confident, proved by a second-place finish in the season-opener in Bahrain.

“The confidence was high,” Goethe said. “After winning a championship and having a few good results in F3 in 2022 as well in the two races that I did. So I knew I could do it. The confidence was really high, especially after Bahrain.”

After a promising start to 2023 in Bahrain, scoring sixth and second-place finishes, Goethe’s form dipped and top-10 results became elusive.

“The middle of the season didn’t really go to plan,” he said. “Many down moments, but I like to think I sort of came back from it quite well in the second half of the season.”

Come back well he did, achieving a maiden victory at Silverstone and scoring three more top-five finishes to end the season eighth in the standings and he recalls his first victory on the world stage fondly.

“I felt amazing,” he said of taking top honours at the British Grand Prix circuit. “Silverstone’s such a nice track to do it as well. I just really enjoyed the weekend there, racing around that track for the first time. But yeah, it felt special when I was on the podium, when the checkered flag came out, everyone celebrating it, it felt unreal. I had no words in the moment.”

Goethe said: “The goal this year [2024] is to avoid the downfall and be more consistent when I’m at my best so I can fight for the championship.” To do that, he has reunited with Campos, who gave him his first two rounds in F3 back in 2022 and he believes he’s in the right environment to succeed.

“It feels good first of all to be back with Campos,” he said. “I have nothing against Trident, they’re an amazing team, really really good in F3 throughout the last few years. But I believe the Campos car is very good as well and I believe I can still win it with them and fight for the championship with them, which is the goal.”

After post-season testing in 2023, Goethe got his first race back with Campos under his belt in the chaotic Macau GP – a historic and highly sought-after prize in Formula 3 racing, won by the likes of Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher and run on one of the most gruelling street circuits in motorsport.

Suffering a setback in the Qualifying Race, finishing 21st, Goethe was able to fight through the field to finish inside the top 10 with a ninth-place finish in the main event.

“It was an unreal experience,” he said. “The weekend went well overall, but could have been a lot better. Unfortunately, with the qualifying race, I got hit at the start and that dropped me to the back and made me start from the back for the main race. And I did my best to go to the top 10. But I really believe a podium was possible or even a win.

“So yeah, just the experience driving in Macau was unreal. It’s for sure one of the most crazy tracks in the world.”

With a podium or even a win left on the table at Macau, Goethe said he’d “love to” return to the race in 2024.

“There’s a long time till then, nothing’s confirmed yet, but I’d love to do it again for sure,” he added.

Between now and a potential return to Macau there’s a season of FIA F3 to compete in and Goethe will have the support of the Red Bull Junior Academy on his side, whose colours he ran with in Macau.

The Red Bull Junior programme has produced two World Champions, race winners and podium finishers in Formula 1 including Goethe’s idols Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

It’s regarded to be a high-pressure environment, but Goethe feels that being part of the Red Bull setup is cause for excitement and that pressure just comes from being a racing driver chasing results.

“For me it’s more excitement rather than pressure,” he relayed. “I believe whether I’m with an academy or not, the pressure is always there. I always need to get results, you know, every driver has to have that.

“Yeah, for me they’re being really supportive and it’s an exciting opportunity for me. Yeah, it’s more excitement than pressure in my eyes.

“When joining them of course I had a meeting with Dr Marko and also with Christian [Horner]. But yeah, also Rocky [Guillaume Rocquelin], one of the previous chief engineers is running, mainly running the Academy programme and he’s been a lot of help. He helps with the simulator work and when I got started, he was the guy telling me the things I can learn.

“So yeah, so far, they’ve been really supportive.”

With a year of FIA F3 under his belt along with a maiden victory and now with Campos and Red Bull in his corner, the goal for Goethe in 2024 is clear.

“I’d like to win the championship, of course,” he declared. “Every year is very competitive. I understand that. But already last year in my first year, I felt like I could have done it. With more consistency and this year I feel stronger and there’s no reason why I can’t do it. So that’s the goal.”

A title win in FIA F3 would be the perfect way to progress for Goethe, with success in the category and a potential succession in Formula 2 in between him and a place on the coveted Formula 1 grid and like most young drivers, Grand Prix racing and F1 titles are Goethe’s end goal. So when asked where he sees himself in five years, there was an unsurprising answer.

“That’s the big dream at the end of the day, to be World Champion in F1,” he admitted. “Five years is a long time in motorsport years, so I’d like to see myself in F1 for sure.”

Goethe’s FIA F3 campaign gets underway with pre-season testing on February 11 – 13 in Bahrain, which will also play host to Round 1 on February 29 – March 02.

Campos have confirmed their driver line-up in Formula 3 for 2023 by announcing that Josep Maria Marti will return for a second season with the team.

After briefly making an outing for the Spanish outfit in the 2021 post-season test, Marti was promoted to a race seat for 2022, but he largely struggled to produce results in his debut campaign in the series.

It took the Spaniard until the final Sprint Race event for him to claim his only two points pf the year and he ended up a lowly 26th in the Drivers’ standings.

However, Marti, who has also been competing in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship over the winter, tested for Campos again in Jerez at the conclusion of last year and has been given a second chance with the side in the third-tier category for 2023.

The 17-year-old driver will team up alongside Hugh Barter and Christian Mansell as Campos look to advance beyond the eighth-place finish they achieved in last season’s standings.

“I’m very pleased to continue my involvement in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Campos Racing for 2023,” Marti said after his F3 place for this year was confirmed.

“We completed a promising season, constantly learning and improving our results, and the season came to an end with very positive testing sessions. I hope to have a strong season and continue my positive feedback with the team.”

“It’s such a pleasure to have Pepe (Martí) with us for a third consecutive season, because our goal has always been to help our drivers through the single-seater pyramid towards F1, and Pepe is a perfect example,” Campos Team Principal Adrian Campos Jr added.

“He is one of those that make up our large family and we are looking forward to achieving strong results together in his second FIA F3 season, because our team has plenty of trust placed in him.”

Hugh Barter will make his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship this year, competing with Campos Racing.

Barter spent the 2022 season racing in the Spanish and French Formula 4 Championships, finishing runner-up in both categories.

The Australian driver won multiple races across both series and has now been tasked with a drive in FIA F3 with Campos, the team he raced for in Spanish F4.

“I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be doing F3 with Campos Racing this year,” Barter said.

“It’ll be good to keep the relationship going after a strong season with them in Formula 4 so I look forward to it.

“I would also like to thank my main sponsor Platinum High Integrity Technologies Limited because without them it would not be possible.”

Barter already has experience in F3 machinery, having taken part in the post-season test with Campos last year.

The 17-year-old is the second driver to be announced to the team’s F3 line-up, as Christian Mansell has already been confirmed.

“We are proud to continue working with Hugh after a 2022 season with plenty of success,” said Campos team boss Adrian Campos.

“The Formula 3 championship is yet a more difficult challenge but we feel confident as he is a very talented driver with excellent skills.

“We really hope he will be able to quickly learn with our support and experience in order to end the season fighting for top results.”

Campos Racing has confirmed the first driver in its 2023 FIA Formula 3 line-up, penning a deal with Christian Mansell.

Mansell made his debut in the F3 series last year with Charouz, competing in the rounds at the Hungaroring and Spa-Francorchamps.

The Briton raced full time in the Euroformula Open Championship this year, finishing third in the Drivers’ Championship.

“To be joining Campos for FIA F3 in 2023 is such an incredible honour, and achievement,” said Mansell.

“With a strong showing in the latter part of the season it gives me confidence I can do well in my opening year in FIA F3. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!”

Campos ended the 2022 F3 campaign eighth in the standings, taking one race victory across the year.

Team Principal Adrian Campos said of Mansell’s signing: “I would like to extend a warm welcome to Christian (Mansell) on behalf of Campos Racing.

“It will be a huge challenge for him as it will be his rookie season in the FIA Formula 3, which is an extremely competitive racing series. His previous results, a race winner in other championships, explain well he is a talented driver.

“Besides, due to his diabetic condition, Christian is an example to follow for everybody as he proves what you can achieve with commitment and determination, even at the highest motorsport level.”
