Dino Beganovic says last season's debut in F2 was a 'good starting point' ahead of his new campaign with Hitech for 2025

Hitech’s Dino Beganovic has revealed his close relationship with Gabriel Bortoleto and the “surreal” nature of being in the Ferrari Driver Academy ahead of the 2025 Formula 2 season.

The Swedish driver made his debut in the junior category for DAMS Lucas Oil at the Qatar Grand Prix, qualifying in an impressive fourth place for the Feature race and taking his first points with a fifth place finish.

Beganovic went one better in Abu Dhabi, earning his first podium in the series thanks to the disqualification of Paul Aron, taking 22 points across his first two rounds in F2.

Following in the footsteps of Aron, Beganovic leaves Prema Racing after five years with the Italian team to join Hitech for the 2025 season.

Motorsport Week spoke exclusively with the 21-year-old, who is hoping to make his mark with his new team and insists the experience of last season helped in “proving some people wrong”.

“Definitely, I mean, having the opportunity to do those two rounds in F2, the whole aim was just to have some experience going into this year, gain as much experience as possible and just have a baseline of where we can work from,” Beganovic said.

“Obviously, we have a very good baseline to work from now.

“It went very well and I’m very, very happy with how it went after a tough season in Formula 3.

“I’m very happy that, jumping in a new car and just doing well and proving some people wrong, I think it was very important for me, but also some other people to see what I’m capable of.

“It’s a good starting point of what we can build on this year with my new team, Hitech.”

Beganovic ‘thankful’ for ‘close’ relationship with Bortoleto

The Linkoping-born racing driver made his debut in single-seater racing back in 2020 for the Italian Formula 4 Championship with Prema Powerteam.

His team-mate that season was Bortoleto, who has since gone onto become the F2 World Champion in 2024.

The Sauber-Formula 1 bound driver and Beganovic and have been close ever since, even sharing advice with each other on and off the track.

“Yeah, Gabriel and I, we are good friends since a long time,” he added.

“We were teammates in F4 and I think that’s where it kind of kicked off, being very good mates since then.

“Him having lived in Milan for a while, it was quite easy for us to meet and also having some weekends together, but also on track.

“When we were competing, maybe not sharing everything, for example, in Formula 3 in regional.

“But like I said, always mates outside the track and my best mate, and definitely for the last two rounds [of last season].

“Obviously he was in a very good position to win the championship, which he did in the end.

“He didn’t see me as a threat in that way and could share some stuff with me, which I’m very thankful for.

“It’s some stuff that can take races to learn and sometimes you need to do them yourself before and understanding that this is what happens when you do that, if you change some stuff with your driving in race scenario, quali scenario.

“So he definitely did give me some tips in that and I’m very thankful for that – it’s very nice to have this relationship with him.”

Switch to Hitech feels like ‘the right move’

Beganovic partners fellow F3 graduate Luke Browning at Hitech for the 2025 season, a driver he has lots of “respect” for.

Another driver he respects is his former team-mate Aron, who finished third for the British team in the F2 Drivers’ Standings in 2024.

However, he admitted he only played a “small part” in his decision to leave Prema, citing the need for change as the main reason for his exit.

“Well, I’ve been in Prema for five years, since I started my single-seater career in F4 after karting,” Beganovic explained.

“We definitely had a good couple of years together, winning the Formula Regional Championship in 22’ and having a strong first year in F3 as well.

“I don’t want to go into details of exactly why [I made] the change, but Hitech feels like the right move for me for this year.

“And looking at Paul, how well he did last year as well, I’ve been teammates with him for three seasons.

“He’s a very good driver and I’ve heard a lot of good things about the team, Hitech.

“So it did play maybe a small part, but not the biggest one.

“I just felt like I needed a change and some things that could have been better also last year in my second year of F3 as well with Prema.

“But I think it’s healthy to change the environment a bit and I’m very happy with at the moment what we are doing in Hitech and what we are building on.”

Gabriel Bortoleto offered ‘some tips’ to Dino Beganovic as the Swedish driver made his debut in F2 last season

Beganovic: ‘It’s many driver’s dream to be a Ferrari driver’

Beganovic joined the Ferrari Driver Academy back in 2020 and he reportedly made his debut in a Ferrari F1 car in the team’s behind closed doors test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The two-time F3 race winner touched on the “very special feeling” of being a Ferrari academy driver.

“Well, it’s many driver’s dream to be a Ferrari driver,” he said.

“I joined the Academy in 2020, so we’re starting our sixth year together, which is surreal actually.

“It’s a very special feeling to have them behind me and feeling the support of, I would say, the most iconic brand or team as well in motorsport.

“Just having them believe in you and giving you all the opportunities is very nice.

“They’ve definitely been a big part of my journey so far, giving some insights from Formula 1 if they have some different experience.

“If we are going to a new track, for example, for me in Qatar last year, it was helpful to get some insights from the Formula 1 team.

“Definitely using their simulator, both the F2 and F3 one, but as well as I’m doing a lot of work in the F1 sim.

“It definitely helps me as a driver, improving every time I’m in the sim and every lap I’m doing in the sim.

“With my feedback as well being very precise and good from early days in my career, I think it’s strong because eventually if you get the opportunity to jump in an F1 car, in an F1 team, you need to be prepared to do those stuff well.

“Giving feedback and having a good relationship with your engineers, mechanics and so on.

“Being and breathing in the air of Ferrari in Maranello is something special.”

Young Swede aims to be top F2 contender in 2025

Spearheading the F2 title fight next season will be the likes of the reigning F3 champion, Leonardo Fornaroli, Arvid Lindblad and Gabriele Mini.

After two consistent sixth-place finishes in back-to-back F3 seasons, Beganovic is hoping he can challenge at the front in F2 and he revealed how he will use his good friend Bortoleto as an inspiration.

“Well, that’s my goal and that’s what I’ve been working on and I’m working on right now to always be there in the top because I think the best example of winning a championship is Gabriel, having won F3, having won F2,” he revealed.

“Not a super good start in the F2 year.

“I mean, obviously he did take pole in Bahrain, but after that he didn’t score a massive amount of points.

“But he always was in the points.

“In the end, he had a very strong second half.

“So, looking at this every year, always being there in the top and taking points, that’s how you win championships.

“I’m looking to do that, but first we need to see where we are in Barcelona and then from there we will have a clear point what our expectations will be.

“But I’m definitely looking to be a contender this year.”

Ferrari junior Dino Beganovic will contest the 2025 F2 campaign with Hitech

Ferrari Academy Driver Dino Beganovic is among several drivers recently confirmed to contest the FIA Formula 2 championship in 2025.

Hitech has announced the young Swede will be given a full-time drive in the series, having competed in the final two rounds of 2024.

Driving for DAMS, Beganovic impressed with 22 points, including a podium finish in the final Feature of the year in Abu Dhabi.

It is the third category in three years for Beganovic, who won the FRECA championship in 2023 with 300 points.

He also finished sixth in the 2024 FIA Formula 3 standings, winning twice and earning a further two podiums.

“I’m thrilled to join Hitech GP for my first full season in Formula 2 next year,” said Beganovic. “Having had a brief introduction to F2 over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been really impressed by the car and the level of the championship.

“Stepping up full time in 2025 with one of the series’ top teams is an amazing opportunity.

“I’m tremendously grateful to Hitech, Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, and everyone else who made this possible. It’s a big, important step in my career and I can’t wait to start working with the team this week at the post-season test.”

Another signing for next season is young Japanese driver Ritomo Miyata, who is leaving Rodin Motorsport to join ART, confirming a second year in the competition.

Miyata scored eight points finishes across his debut season, finishing 19th in the standings.

“I am thrilled to announce that I will be competing in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season with ART Grand Prix,” said Miyata.

“I am deeply grateful to Morizo-san (Akio Toyoda) and everyone at TGR for giving me another opportunity to race in Formula 2.”

Sebastian Montoya is following in his father’s footsteps

Red Bull Juniors secure F2 future

Prema Racing has big shoes to fill with both Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Oliver Bearman graduating to Formula 1 with Mercedes and Haas respectively, but it has found two young stars who will occupy the void.

Alongside Gabriele Minì the Italian team has announced fellow F3 graduate Sebastian Montoya.

The Colombian, son of former F1 driver Juan Pablo and a current member of the Red Bull Junior Team, took six points finishes in 2023 with Campos, including P2 in the Feature race at Spa-Francorchamps.

“I’m very excited to join PREMA for the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season,” Montoya said.

“It was the first team I worked with and that makes it very cool to see how the team changed. It is one of the best teams in feeder series racing and now in the world. I’m delighted to join forces with it again and cannot wait to get it started.”

It is doubly good news for the youngsters attached to the Milton Keynes squad, as alongside Montoya, Josep Maria Martí has been confirmed to be continuing in F2 with Campos.

The Spaniard impressed throughout the year, scoring four podiums, including Sprint Race victory at the Yas Marina Circuit, which earned him 14th place in the final standings.

“I’m very excited to be returning today Campos Racing for my 2nd season in Formula 2 in 2025,“ said Martí.

“Since the start of my single seater career, Adrian father and son have had faith in me and now we are facing our fifth season together.”

After securing a fine one-two finish in Saturday’s FIA Formula 3 Sprint at Spa-Francorchamps Belgium, race winner Dino Beganovic and championship leader Gabriele Mini had their say on the evolving title fight.

Mini got the holeshot from reverse grid polesitter Beganovic at lights out, with damp conditions making things tricky for the slick-shod runners.

After an early Safety Car intervention, Beganovic reclaimed the lead once the race restarted and from there, the Prema duo controlled the race in formation.

Victory brings Beganovic back into the championship picture with 100 points, 28 behind Mini at the top, who handled pressure from behind to extend his championship lead.

“In a way, I think in every race you always want to maximize what you do,” Mini said post-race.

“Of course now we’re in the second last round of the championship you also have to think about the championship standings.

“The goal was to of course gain points if you can win, if not try to get the good points and gain over the competitors which is what we did today.”

Beganovic meanwhile, now on the outside looking in with a slightly stronger claim for title glory, will be looking to end Sunday’s feature within an even smaller gap to his championship-leading team-mate.

Respect and fairness underpinned the Prema duo’s fight for the win

“It will always be a tough race [Sunday], you know, managing it well with race conditions,” Beganovic said.

“We expect tyre management in the race tomorrow but the goal will be to leave for the summer break with a bit smaller gap than we started the weekend [with].”

The defining moment of the race came on Lap 4, as Beganovic closed to the rear of Mini through Eau Rogue and Raidillon before going around the outside at the entry of Les Combes.

On one of the toughest circuits on the F3 calendar, with damp conditions making things even trickier, going nose to tail through the fearsome Eau Rouge and Raidillon isn’t for the faint of heart, especially when one wrong move could see you crash into your title rival and team-mate.

However, for Beganovic and Mini it was no issue, with the pair sharing a long history of racing both as team-mates and rivals.

“I don’t think it’s just about being teammates, it’s more that we have raced each other since karting and we have raced each other since 2016/15,” Beganovic said.

“So it’s been a couple of years that we are together, driving wheel to wheel with each other and we know how to race each other, just basically like that.

“The conditions are tricky, of course it makes it more difficult, but it’s always been hard racing with us, with us two also fighting for the [Formula Regional] championship in 2022 and always fighting each other in whatever category we’ve been in.

“So this definitely helps to understand the other driver more, but it’s always been fair.”

Prema’s Dino Beganovic kept calm amid tricky conditions at Spa-Francorchamps to lead a one-two finish for his team in the Belgian Formula 3 Sprint as Championship leader Gabriele Mini extended his margin at the top of the standings with second.

Saturday’s Sprint at Spa was the first of four races that will bring to an end a tight 2024 Drivers’ title fight.

Going into the 12-lap race, seven points separated Mini (119), Luke Browning (115), Arvid Lindblad (113) and Leonardo Fornaroli (112) in the Drivers’ standings.

Well-poised to extend his slight advantage was Mini starting from the front row of the Sprint alongside reverse polesitter and Prema team-mate Beganovic.

Lindblad, the third Prema driver had a starting berth of 27th and it would take a miracle for him to get involved in the points-scoring action.

Browning and Fornaroli had more favourable starting positions, fifth and 10th respectively.

Rainfall overnight presented its challenges but despite the track conditions being mixed, the majority of the field opted for dry tyres.

At lights out the field squirmed away from the line and Mini wrestled his car well to snatch the holeshot from Beganovic.

Kicking up spray down the Kemmel straight showed the difficult task the drivers had on their hands, but Jenzer Motorsport’s Max Esterson didn’t make it that far, spinning at the top of Raidillon and prompting a Safety Car intervention.

Under caution, Mini led from Beganovic with Tim Tramnitz in third.

Trident’s Santiago Ramos was fourth with Browning in fifth, meanwhile, fellow title challengers Fornaroli and Lindblad were in ninth and 16th respectively with the latter taking nine 11 places on the first lap alone.

Two more tours of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit were completed under caution and with Lap 3 coming to an end, Mini was poised to lead the field back to green.

With conditions still mightily tricky it was no surprise to see the Italian forgo tactical restart games and simply lead away, but that left him vulnerable to Beganovic through Eau Rouge Raidillon and the Kemmel straight and the two Prema drivers swapped positions at Les Combes.

Lindblad meanwhile, continued his charge, rising to 15th at the restart and then 14th, past Nikita Bedrin, by Lap 5.

Browning was heading in the other direction, conceding fifth place to Noel Leon and then sixth to Sebastian Montoya.

On Lap 6, the Hitech driver continued to be vulnerable, taking to the run-off at Les Combes in stern defence over Trident’s Smai Meguetounif for seventh.

Browning lost out to find himself in eighth as Beganovic was instructed to push out in front to extend his leading margin which stood at just six-tenths as he started Lap 7.

Beganovic was indeed pushing, controlling a slight bout of oversteer as he came over the crest of Raidillon on Lap 8, but Mini kept on his tail with just two seconds covering the top four at this stage.

Mini finished second to extend his championship lead

“Stay with him, put him under pressure,” was the call from Mini’s race engineer on Lap 9, as the gap to his leading team-mate was just under half a second.

With just a handful of laps to go, Lindblad’s charge was unrelenting, up to 12th, but it looked as if the Briton would miss out on claiming any points at this crucial stage in the title fight.

On Lap 10, Mini had to not only keep up the pressure on Beganovic but defend from Tramnitz, who was dancing in the mirrors of the Italian’s Prema machine down the Kemme straight and through Les Combes.

The aggressor on Lap 10, Tramnitz became the defender on Lap 11 as Leon tried his damndest to get into the podium picture, but to no avail.

This gave two Prema drivers a touch of breathing room as they came through to start the final tour of the iconic Spa circuit, with Mini holding a one-second advantage over Tramnitz.

Leon sliced through into third at Les Combes, displacing Tramnitz who then had Ramos for close company thereafter.

Tramnitz’s brave defence through the final sector brought a bottleneck of cars through the final chicane as Beganovic and Mini calmly crossed the line for a Prema one-two.

That left Leon to cooly complete the podium as Tramnitz valiantly held onto fourth ahead of Ramos, Meguetounif, Browning and Montoya.

Fornaroli remained in ninth throughout as Oliver Goethe completed the top-10.

Nine points for Mini as a result of second in the Sprint resulted in his tally in the Drivers’ standings rising to 128 points and his lead extending to eight over Browning (120).

Fornaroli fell to 13 points behind in third (115) with Lindblad falling to fourth in the standings with his tally of 113 points.

Thanks to his victory, Beganovic remains an outside title contender, fifth in the standings with 100 points to his name.

Update: Post-race penalties alter Sprint result and title picture

Mini’s position as championship leader was strengthened further post-race as the Stewards penalised several drivers for track limits violations.

Fornaroli, Meguetounif, Santiago Ramos, Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Martinius Stenshorne and Jenzer Motorsport’s Charlie Wurz were all handed five-second penalties for breaching track limits, with Mequetounif’s 30 seconds he was handed mid-race.

In addition, MP Motorsport’s Alex Dunne, Browning, VAR’s Tommy Smith and AIX Racing’s Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak also received five-second penalties for track limits violations with the latter’s added to a 10-second penalty picked up during the race.

Lastly, Mari Boya was guilty of eight track limits violations, incurring a 25-second penalty as a result.

The resulting penalties mean Montoya completes the top five behind Beganovic, Mini, Leon and Tramnitz with Goethe, Callum Voisin, Ramos, Fornaroli and Laurens van Hoepen completing the top-10.

Mini also now has a 13-point advantage over Browning in the Drivers’ standings with Fornaroli a further point back in third.

Prema driver Dino Beganovic jumped team-mate Gabriele Mini and polesitter Leonardo Fornaroli to take the win in Formula 3’s Australian Grand Prix Feature race.

Fornaroli remained out of trouble going into Turn 1 and kept the lead of the race in the opening stages, while the Prema drivers maintained positions two and three.

However, an incident between Joseph Loake and Tommy Smith that ended with both cars in the gravel on the second lap prompted the Safety Car’s introduction.

Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak also brushed the barrier into Turn 2 but managed to continue as the field packed back during the Safety Car period.

Upon the restart, Luke Browning attacked Nikita Bedrin into Turn 4 and Arvid Lindblad quickly followed him through Turn 5 to relegate the PHM AIX driver to sixth.

Campos drivers Mari Boya and Oliver Goethe duelled over seventh, with the German sweeping into Turn 4 to take the place before trying to attack Bedrin right after.

While attempting to secure sixth place on Lap 8, though, Goethe had an excursion into the gravel and dropped behind his team-mate on the road once again.

Fornaroli had remained in first up until Lap 10 when Mini crept to within DRS range and began to put the leader under pressure, with Beganovic also maintaining pace.

The Swedish driver would overhaul his team-mate three laps later and set his sights on Fornaroli 1.3 seconds ahead, while Browning demoted Mini back to fourth.

Dino Beganovic (SWE) Prema Racing. 24.03.2024. FIA Formula 3 Championship, Rd 2, Feature Race, Melbourne, Australia, Sunday

On Lap 14, Beganovic took the lead from Fornaroli for the first time in the race with a move into the inside of Turn 9 that was enough to move ahead of the Trident.

Behind the top three, Boya and Montoya passed Bedrin to place their respective Campos machines fifth and sixth, with Goethe having dropped back to 10th place.

One lap later, Montoya made a successful lunge on Boya, who also lost a position to Wurz, who was sustaining a spectacular comeback drive from 14th on the grid.

Degradation had transpired to be a notable issue as the race wore on, with Lindblad plummeting through the order to drop from fifth on Lap 11 to ninth in two laps.

Beganovic was also encountering trouble with graining, preventing him from being able to extend his lead over Fornaroli, who still had DRS with three laps to go.

Heading into the penultimate tour, Mini recovered to break into the podium places with a pass on the outside of Browning into the popular overtaking spot of Turn 9.

Despite concerns over his rubber, Beganovic held on to secure his maiden F3 win in his sophomore campaign, with Fornaroli and Mini completing the rostrum places.

Browning ended up fourth ahead of rookie Wurz, Montoya and Bedrin, who overtook Goethe on the final lap to take eighth. Mansell took the final point on home soil for ART.

This meant a great result for the Prema team, with two drivers on the podium and just missing out on a triple-points finish, as Lindblad saw the chequered flag in eleventh.

Campos achieved what Prema couldn’t, scoring a very important triple points finish with its drivers Montoya, Boya and Goethe ending the race in sixth, seventh and ninth.

Ferrari Academy Driver Dino Beganovic claimed his first Formula 3 pole position with a 1:46:431s in his second season with PREMA Racing.

Beganovic is the highest-placed returning driver looking to fight for the championship, drawing inspiration from his FRECA title win.

Putting two cars in the top three, Prema set the tone for the season as Beganovic snatched the provisional pole from Luke Browning and Christian Mansell.

Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Browning was named the man to beat after topping the practice sessions and testing times in Bahrain.

GB3 Champion Max Esterson initially clocked the fastest time in the early stages of the windy qualifying session with a 1:47:573s.

Leonardo Fornaroli followed in second with a 0.046s gap to the GB3 graduate before Esteron dropped down to 15th after exceeding track limits.

Fornaroli then topped the time sheet with a 1:47:141 after the man to beat surprisingly fell short with a 1:47:332 with less than ten minutes to go.

Less than two-tenths separated the top six in the early stages as track temperatures fell throughout the session but several drivers fell victim to track limits.

Sebastian Montoya suffered from a lockup during a flying lap going into Turn 8, while Charlie Wurz and Esterson faced deleted lap times that demoted them to the bottom of the grid.

Mansell was noted for an unsafe release from the pits, when sitting in 7th, but went on to qualify 8th in his ART after taking provisional pole for a moment before Beganovic snatched the place.

With three minutes to go to set the grid for the sprint and feature race, Browning powered through the circuit setting a purple first sector.

Mansell, Browning, and Beganovic engaged in a three-way fight for the pole position of the season, snatching purple sectors from one another.

Beganovic won out in the battle for pole – the PREMA driver set a time of 1:46:431s while Browning followed just 0.167s seconds behind.

Mansell was eventually dropped to eighth, pushed out of the top five by Gabriele Mini in third, Sami Meguetounif in fourth, Santiago Ramos in fifth, Leonardo Fornaroli in sixth, and rookie Tim Tramnitz in seventh.

Prema Racing announced today that it is retaining the services of driver Dino Beganovic for an assault on the FIA Formula 3 World Championship in 2024.

A Ferrari Academy driver with ties with Prema that go back to 2020, Beganovic will be furthering his single-seater career with the squad that knows him best.

So far the Swede has competed with Prema in the 2020 Italian Formula 4 Championship, finishing third in the standings, as well as the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine in 2021, a series in which he became champion in 2022.

This year, in his maiden F3 campaign, Beganovic secured four podium finishes en route to sixth place in the Drivers’ standings.

“We always enjoyed working with Dino,” said Prema Team Principal Rene Rosin.

“He is a quick and knowledgeable driver and works really well in our team’s environment.

“With the experience gained this year, he will make his challenge even more solid and by what we saw so far in testing, there is great promise for sure.

“We are very happy to continue the path we started together in 2020, and we look forward to seeing what the future will bring.”

Beganovic is delighted to continue his partnership with Prema, which will enter its fifth year in 2025.

“I’m super happy to confirm that I’m staying for another year with my team, PREMA Racing, in Formula 3,” he said.

It’s very nice to stay with the team as it will be our fifth year together.

“I cannot wait to continue the work we have done together throughout the years, starting from Formula 4.

“Our targets are clear and have been set high, but they are achievable.

“We will continue to focus on the testing sessions to prepare as much as possible for the first race next year.”

The 10-round 2024 F3 calendar commences in Bahrain on February 29 – March 2.

Prema Racing has announced that Dino Beganovic will step up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2023.

Beganovic raced full-time in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine this year with the Italian squad, emerging as the series champion.

The Swede took four victories and a further eight podiums on his way to the title.

Beganovic has raced for Prema every year during his single-seater career, which began in 2020. He was also present with the team at the post-season F3 test from Jerez earlier this year.

“I am extremely happy to be racing with PREMA, my team, in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship,” Beganovic said.

“It will be our fourth year together, and I’m very proud to continue working together. PREMA has an amazing history in Formula 3 and won at least one championship per year there.

“I think it is definitely a step in the right direction for my future and for the team, as we have been working for a long time together. Testing in Jerez put us in a good position with the preparations for next year, and we want to continue from that.”

Beganovic is the second driver to be announced by Prema for its 2023 F3 season, with Paul Aron already confirmed.

Prema Team Principal Rene Rosin added: “We have been working with Dino since the very beginning of his single-seater career, and we are elated to continue for 2023.

“We went through Formula 4 and Formula Regional with increasingly impressive results together, and his run in FRECA shows how competent and outstanding he has become as a driver.

“The 2023 season will be a key step in shaping the rest of his career and there is great promise. We are willing to support Dino in making a positive impact right from the start, and we will work as hard as possible throughout the winter months.”
