Jack Miller expressed his appreciation to Pramac Yamaha for keeping him in MotoGP after his future in the series looked uncertain beyond 2024.

KTM decided to part ways with Miller from 2025 early into the 2024 season after the Australian rider failed to get to grips with the bike.

He achieved just one podium throughout his two-year stint, which left his career hanging in the balance.

“MotoGP has been my life for 10 years now, and last year it looked like it could honestly all be over,” Miller stated to MotoGP.com.

“Since that moment, I just decided to enjoy every moment that I had on-track.

“I feel extremely blessed to be able to do this hopefully for a few more years. I feel like my time isn’t done yet – last year that was the biggest thing for me, I didn’t feel ready to step down yet, I still feel like I have more to do.

“I guess this opportunity with Yamaha and Pramac, a massive thank you to them and to Paolo [Campinoti] because he saved me.”

Yamaha ‘probably the most committed’ MotoGP entrant – Miller

The 30-year-old heaped praise on the Japanese marque’s efforts to return to the front of the pack once again.

Yamaha and Pramac formed a long-term partnership to become its satellite entity – a partnership that Miller perceives as “a second factory team.”

“Yamaha are probably the most committed out of any manufacturer that I’ve worked with, putting on a whole second factory team,” he said.

“It doesn’t stop there; that whole testing structure, moving that all to Europe and really trying to focus on more of a European base in that area [while] keeping a Japanese focus on quality and the way that they work.

“They’re finding this balance very well between the two [Europe and Japan] and they’re taking all the right steps to do that.”

Miller’s decade-long experience in the premier class will be valuable to Yamaha, considering he has spent time riding with Honda and Ducati too, and the Pramac outfit from 2018 to 2020.

TNT Sports pundit Neil Hodgson says Pramac Yamaha acquiring the services of Jack Miller is a “clever” signing for the MotoGP satellite team.

As part of its bid to regain competitiveness, Yamaha formed an alliance with Pramac to establish a satellite team.

Pramac Racing prioritised experienced riders over those from the intermediate class, signing Miguel Oliveira and Miller.

Miller has previously spent time in the KTM, Ducati, and Honda garages, a strength that stood out to former Superbike champion Hodgson.

“Obviously, we all love Jack [Miller], he’s like the most normal MotoGP rider you’ll ever meet, he’s a real character – and great for TV,” Hodgson said to Crash.net.

“I’m pleased for him, because he’s got a lot of experience, and a lot of people were questioning if it was a good signing or not.

“I’ve got to say that I think it was a really clever signing; you’ve got a rider who’s been on the Honda, Ducati, and KTM, and always when I’ve spoken to any team they say he’s very good at test riding.

“He’s one of those riders who’s good at ‘blind tests’ where they don’t tell you what they’ve done to the bike, try something, and he comes back and his feedback’s normally on point.

 “I think Jack will go good. The beauty of Jack is he’s got a one-year deal, he’ll give it his best, and if it’s not enough he won’t be bitter if he doesn’t get another contract because he’s had a really good career; and I’m sure that, if a door closes in MotoGP, then quite a few would open in World Superbikes.”

Neil Hodgson predicts winless season for the Japanese marques

Hodgson offered his predictions about both Yamaha and Honda for the upcoming season.

Both Japanese marques occupied the bottom two slots in the Manufactures’ Championship and failed to feature on the rostrum.

Both Yamaha and Honda riders reported improvements in the pre-season tests in Sepang and Thailand, but Hodgson suggests that both teams will go winless once again.

“I think they’re on the way forward. Unfortunately, I can’t see them [Honda and Yamaha] leapfrogging [KTM and Aprilia] and being in the mix to fight with the Ducatis. But, obviously, the Japanese manufacturers have got the concessions, it looks like they’ve used them really well, they’ve both made steps forward.

“It’s going to be interesting to see where they can get to, but I think we’re going to have to wait until 2026 before I’m going to make bold statements like ‘I definitely think they will win races this year’ – I just cannot see it [in 2025].

“Obviously, you can have mixed weather, you can have flag-to-flags, things can happen; but on a normal, dry weekend, I can’t see a Japanese manufacturer winning any races. I hope I’m wrong.”

Jack Miller believes “I haven’t met my expectations” as he assessed his time with KTM after a two-year stint with the MotoGP team.

The Australian rider’s two years with the Austrian outfit have resulted in just one podium finish at the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix and championship finishes of 11th and 14th, respectively.

In the 2024 season, he was far behind his team-mate Brad Binder and GasGas rider Pedro Acosta, who finished fifth and sixth in the championship standings.

“Unfortunately, I haven’t met my expectations in the last two years, so I’m disappointed in that,” he said.

“At the end of the day that’s what I’m here to do, try to give my all every time I go on track. I’m a racer and I want to be competitive.

“I’m disappointed for everybody. It’s not what we wanted from all parties.

“I came in there with 25 podiums, was on the podium and fighting for the championship the last year in Ducati, and then it hasn’t been what I imagined or envisioned.

“Even at the beginning of this season, I put in the hardest off-season I’ve put and didn’t get the results I’ve wanted.

“I tried my best from the first laps in Valencia when I first tried the bike until the last laps, and I take pride in that fact and that’s it.”

Jack Miller lists the reasons for his 2024 struggles

Miller felt that his 2024 struggles, in particular, were summed up due to the rear tyres that Michelin introduced this year and KTM’s development struggles.

“Honestly, this year’s been a struggle, [and] there’s no hiding that fact,” he said to Crash.net.

“[At] Valencia last year, leading the last race was a nice feeling, fighting for the podium; [also] Sprint podium at Sachsering, podium and Sprint podium in Jerez, but definitely this year with the new tyre, we struggled to adapt to that.

“Obviously being on the same chassis as we were in Misano last year doesn’t help. That’s the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.”

“Obviously the precious one is the fifth place in Buriram. That was nice to be back fighting for the podium again; okay it was wet conditions, but we showed true grit and that describes these last two years: I never gave up one moment, even when I was landing on my head every second weekend I was trying my best.

KTM opted to replace Miller with Acosta in the season’s early stages, leaving Miler without a home in 2025.

The 29-year-old looked set to leave the sport before a spot with the newly formed Pramac Yamaha arrived, with the four-time race winner joining his old team.
